Traffic Accident on Zonguldak-Ankara Road Causes Congestion at Karaelmas Junction

A traffic accident near the Karaelmas Interchange, at the Kilimli junction on the Zonguldak-bound side of the Zonguldak-Ankara highway, disrupted traffic flow. Long queues formed around the interchange as vehicles struggled to move through the area. Traffic personnel were seen directing vehicles and helping maintain road safety.

Footage recorded near the Karaelmas Interchange shows traffic slowing considerably following the accident. Queues of vehicles built up along the connecting roads, affecting traffic movements around the junction.

A red passenger car, apparently damaged, can be seen among vehicles parked on the left side of the road. Some of the vehicles believed to have been involved in the accident appear to have been moved into positions that would minimize disruption to passing traffic. A traffic officer wearing a high-visibility orange vest was also seen directing vehicles.

Buses and Trucks Caught in Traffic Queues

The accident led to heavy congestion around the interchange, with passenger cars, buses, light commercial vehicles and trucks among those waiting to pass. Traffic was particularly slow along routes connecting Kilimli and Çatalağzı, as well as roads leading towards Devrek and Ankara.

Vehicles approaching from different directions were forced to wait at the junction, creating lengthy queues. Traffic personnel attempted to keep vehicles moving by managing crossings and directing drivers through the affected area.

Wet Road Surface Poses Additional Risks

The footage shows overcast weather and a damp, partially wet road surface. Such conditions can increase stopping distances and raise the risk of vehicles skidding during sudden braking or sharp manoeuvres.

As the Karaelmas Interchange connects several important routes, including Kilimli, central Zonguldak, Devrek and Ankara, drivers are advised to exercise caution, maintain lane discipline and observe right-of-way rules.

No official information has yet been confirmed regarding the exact cause of the accident, the number of vehicles involved or whether anyone was injured. Drivers travelling through the area are advised to proceed carefully and follow instructions from traffic personnel.
