The Liberal Party reacted strongly to Devlet Bahçeli’s proposal involving Abdullah Öcalan and a “Peace Process Coordination Office.” The party emphasized that Turkey needs rule of law and equal citizenship, not privileged mechanisms.
Devlet Bahçeli’s new roadmap proposal regarding the “Terror-Free Turkey” process has sparked political debate, while Liberal Parti issued a striking response. The party strongly criticized the suggestion that the influence of Abdullah Öcalan could be used in a controlled manner for the dissolution of the PKK terrorist organization.
In a statement shared on social media, the Liberal Party argued that the goal of a “Terror-Free Turkey” had been undermined by discussions of special status arrangements, behind-closed-doors negotiations, and legal uncertainties. The statement emphasized that lasting social peace could only be achieved through transparent democratic processes and the rule of law.
The party declared that “Turkey does not need new areas of privilege, but equal citizenship and a fair state for everyone,” highlighting the importance of securing fundamental rights and freedoms. It also stressed that strong local governments and democratic reforms are key pillars of social stability and peace.
Bahçeli’s proposed “Peace Process and Political Coordination Office” has triggered mixed reactions across the political spectrum. While the MHP leader argued that the mechanism would be limited solely to disarmament and the dissolution process of the organization, opposition circles warned that the proposal could open the door to new political controversies.
Following the controversial statements, attention has now turned to possible reactions and evaluations from both government and opposition parties.
