JUSTICE AND MORALITY

Morality is the set of conscience-based and cultural values that enables an individual to distinguish between right and wrong. Justice, on the other hand, is the application of these values to social life through rules, institutions, and law.

Therefore, without morality, justice becomes a soulless mechanism; without justice, morality remains merely a personal wish.

Morality regulates the inner world of the individual, while justice regulates the shared life of society. Through morality, a person learns to respect the rights of others; through justice, those rights are protected.

For this reason, justice should exist not only in courtrooms but in every aspect of daily life.

For example, not cutting in line, respecting labor and effort, not oppressing the weak, and remaining honest are everyday manifestations of justice.

Therefore, it can be said that the law is an indicator of a society’s moral standards.

Today, many of the political and social crises experienced in the modern world stem from the weakening or breakdown of the bond between justice and morality.

In societies where power takes precedence over the rule of law and self-interest suppresses conscience, people lose trust in the state, institutions, and one another.

Yet the foundation of lasting peace, social harmony, and a democratic order is not only strong laws but also a strong moral understanding.

Because justice is shaped not only by the decisions of courts but also by the way people treat one another.
