Liberal Party Chairman Zübeyir Gülabi made a striking statement regarding KHK victims by drawing attention to MHP Chairman Devlet Bahçeli’s remarks about the “Terror-Free Türkiye” process.

Referring to Bahçeli’s statement published in Türkgün Newspaper on May 18, 2026 — “Approximately one year and eight months have passed since the call for a Terror-Free Türkiye and strengthening the internal front. The progress made during this period is promising, and the absence of any violent action is also pleasing and a sign of sincerity behind the steps taken” — Gülabi directly addressed the MHP leader.

Zübeyir Gülabi stated:

“Mr. Devlet Bahçeli, the paragraph above consists of your own words published in Türkgün Newspaper on May 18, 2026. KHK victims have been tried and are still being tried as terrorism offenders and are receiving sentences. Despite 10 years of terrorism accusations, not a single act of terrorism or statement supporting terrorism has been identified among KHK victims. If you consider 18 months without violence a success, why are you so silent regarding KHK victims?”

Gülabi’s remarks once again brought discussions surrounding KHK-related prosecutions and legal controversies back into the political spotlight. The Liberal Party argued that the grievances experienced by KHK victims for many years should be evaluated on legal rather than political grounds, while the emphasis on “absence of violent action” drew particular attention.

Gülabi also underlined that although KHK victims have faced severe accusations for years, they have not been linked to any violent or terrorist act, adding that this reality should be reconsidered in the public debate.
