Çukurova Mayor Emrah Kozay Suspended Following Arrest

Türkiye’s Interior Ministry has announced the suspension of Emrah Kozay, mayor of Çukurova, a district of Adana. According to the ministry’s official statement, the decision was taken after Kozay was arrested in connection with an ongoing investigation.

The investigation concerns allegations of irregularities in various tender procedures, direct procurement transactions, personnel recruitment and progress payment processes carried out by Çukurova Municipality and its affiliated company, Çukurova İmar İnşaat İnsan Kaynakları A.Ş.

The ministry stated that the investigation was launched over allegations that public resources had been used unlawfully and that the alleged acts had been carried out within an organized structure purportedly established for the purpose of committing crimes.

The suspension was imposed as a temporary measure under Article 127 of the Constitution of the Republic of Türkiye and Article 47 of Municipal Law No. 5393, the ministry said.
