So much happened while the country was asleep!
Perhaps people would have continued sleeping if it had not hit them in their pockets. Because the pocket is the most powerful opposition force!
I deliberately left some dates blank in the chronological sequence. Those who wish can write the missing dates below the video.
2008 – Deniz Feneri: In the German proceedings, the intended use of €14 million out of €41 million in donations could not be determined.
2016: A state of emergency was declared following the July 15 coup attempt. Hundreds of thousands of public servants were dismissed through emergency decrees; our skilled human resources and institutional memory suffered a severe blow.
2017 – Man Island: Allegations of an $18 million money transfer came to light; compensation rulings were overturned by the Court of Cassation.
2018 – Çiftlik Bank: According to the indictment, 1.14 billion Turkish liras were collected from 132,222 people.
2019 – State-Owned Banks: Reuters reported that $4.5 billion in foreign currency had been sold in a single day.
2021 – Thodex: The indictment calculated losses of 356 million Turkish liras; the verdict was overturned on appeal.
2023 – Seçil Erzan: Allegations that millions of dollars were collected through promises of a secret investment fund were brought before the courts.
2026 – Investment Funds: The Capital Markets Board (SPK) ordered the liquidation of 131 funds belonging to seven companies. The number of individual investors was approximately 455,000.
And that is not even counting the audit findings and violations of regulations identified in Court of Accounts reports.
These figures represent different types of allegations, collections and transaction amounts.
Did all these alleged scandals begin yesterday?
No!
Today, they have hit the pockets of ordinary citizens.
These were issues that had accumulated over the years, been ignored, swept under the rug and left without accountability. But today, they are no longer merely figures on paper, reports or financial transactions.
Today, they are hitting citizens’ pockets, dinner tables, hard-earned wages and future prospects.
Figures that remained on paper until yesterday are now being felt in the lives of millions.
As a culture of inadequate oversight, lack of merit and absence of accountability grows in a country, it is ultimately the citizens who pay the price.
And that is exactly what happened!
