Özgür Özel made new statements following the lawsuit concerning 16 properties he alleged belonged to Akın Gürlek. Özel said he had previously disclosed the identification (ID) numbers of the title deeds in question and had asked Murat Kurum to confirm whether the records were accurate.

Özel claimed that Murat Kurum had refrained from commenting on the matter following instructions from President Erdoğan. He also said that Akın Gürlek had stated that he was prevented from speaking about the issue. According to Özel, Gürlek had announced that he would file a lawsuit and subsequently did so.

“We asked the court to obtain the title deed records”

Speaking about the legal proceedings, Özel recalled that Gürlek had said when filing the lawsuit that the court would request the title deed records. Özel stated that his own lawyers had also asked the court to obtain the records for the 16 properties in question.

Özel made the following statement:

“These 16 properties belong to Akın Gürlek. If these 16 properties do not belong to Akın Gürlek, we accept the penalty. Request the title deeds.”

He alleged that obtaining the property records was opposed

Özel alleged that Gürlek’s lawyers had requested, both at the first hearing and at the latest hearing, that the title deed records not be requested and that the court issue its ruling immediately. He said his own lawyer had sought to have the accuracy of his claim examined through the relevant records.

Özel said the court had ruled against requesting the title deed records. He stated that the outcome favored Akın Gürlek and that he had been ordered to pay compensation.
