Mehmet Şimşek: Türkiye’s Annual Inflation Eases to 32.1% in June

Türkiye’s Treasury and Finance Minister Mehmet Şimşek has released an assessment of the country’s June inflation figures. According to the minister, monthly inflation stood at 0.99%, while annual inflation declined to 32.1% in June.

Şimşek said the disinflation process, which had been interrupted by supply shocks in global energy markets, has resumed. He noted that movements in food and fuel prices played a significant role in shaping June’s inflation outlook.

Statement by Mehmet Şimşek

“Monthly inflation was 0.99% in June.

The disinflation process, which had been interrupted by rising global energy prices caused by supply shocks, has resumed. Annual inflation declined by 0.5 percentage points from the previous month to 32.1% in June.

Supported by favorable trends in fresh fruit and vegetable prices, monthly food inflation was limited to 0.2%, while lower fuel prices also contributed positively to the overall inflation outlook.

For the remainder of the year, we expect disinflation to continue with the support of normalization in commodity prices, rule-based pricing practices, a downward trend in rental inflation, and moderate domestic demand. We remain committed to implementing our policies in line with our objective of achieving lasting price stability.”

The minister’s statement indicated that commodity prices, rental inflation, domestic demand, and pricing practices will remain key factors influencing the inflation outlook in the coming months. He reiterated that the government’s economic policies will continue to focus on achieving sustainable price stability.
