Liberal Party leader Zübeyir Gülabi has sharply criticized the government over fund transactions, public resources, urban transformation and workplace safety in the mining sector. In a statement dated October 10, 2026, Gülabi pledged that past irregularities would be examined before the courts if his party came to power, declaring: “We will put an end to this plunder.”

Liberal Party leader Zübeyir Gülabi targeted Turkey’s economic and political system, arguing that public resources and citizens’ savings were being used to serve the interests of certain groups. Describing the current system as “crony capitalism,” Gülabi called for allegations involving stock market manipulation, fund transactions and public tenders to be investigated.

Drawing attention to what he described as the transfer of wealth through public resources and financial markets, Gülabi argued that the alleged financial network, which he claimed involved ministers, deputy party leaders and presidential palace advisers, should be investigated. He alleged that while ordinary citizens struggled with the economic crisis, certain circles were earning billions of Turkish lira through overnight repo transactions.

Fund Investigation and Journalists’ Arrests

Gülabi also addressed developments related to fund transactions, noting that Ali Tarakçı, Şaban Sevinç and Mustafa Balcı had been arrested, while İsmail Saymaz and Murat Ağırel had been released under judicial supervision. Gülabi argued that journalists had been arrested for reporting on the allegations surrounding the funds, while individuals he claimed bore responsibility were not being investigated in the same way and their names were not being disclosed.

Criticizing government circles, Gülabi alleged that religious and national values were being used to serve political interests. Comparing the sacrifice and moral values represented by Nene Hatun with the lifestyles of today’s governing elites, he highlighted what he described as the contrast between public hardship and luxury among those in power.

Criticism of Urban Transformation and Mining Safety

Gülabi also criticized the government over building collapses in Istanbul and urban transformation policies. He claimed that at least 200,000 apartment units could have been built with the 850 billion Turkish lira he alleged had been squandered in funds, arguing that urban transformation had not been adequately implemented over the years.

Emphasizing that property rights are fundamental to liberalism and civilized society, Gülabi alleged that urban transformation policies had moved away from earthquake safety and become tools serving the land interests of certain groups.

Addressing occupational health and safety in mining areas, Gülabi argued that workers’ lives were being put at risk to protect the profits of certain companies. He maintained that the safety of workers was being disregarded in favor of corporate interests.

“A Period of Major Accountability Will Begin”

Gülabi announced that past irregularities would be reviewed if the Liberal Party came to power. He cited the corruption allegations surrounding December 17–25, alleged misconduct involving forex transactions, fund-related allegations and privatization deals.

Gülabi stated that all allegations of irregularities would be examined before the courts and that steps would be taken to recover funds found to have been obtained unlawfully. Emphasizing the importance of an independent judiciary, he said those responsible must be held accountable under the law.

Arguing that Turkey’s population was declining and citizens were becoming poorer, Gülabi said freedom, security and prosperity could only be achieved by establishing the rule of law.

Liberal Party’s Economic and Legal Priorities

Gülabi also outlined the fundamental principles of the economic and legal order advocated by the Liberal Party. These include reducing the state’s share in the economy, bringing the Public Procurement Law into line with international transparency standards, and fully protecting property rights and individual safety.

Stating that a genuine free-market economy must be built on transparency, accountability and the rule of law, Gülabi concluded his statement with the following declaration:

“OUR PROMISE: WE WILL PUT AN END TO THIS PLUNDER!”

Gülabi said his party aimed to free Turkey from what he described as an organized system of plunder and establish an economic order in which honest entrepreneurs and fair competition prevail.
