Ankara Metropolitan Municipality Mayor Mansur Yavaş stated that Mersin Metropolitan Municipality Mayor Vahap Seçer and two other mayors had been detained in the morning hours. He said he believed that elected mayors should be invited to give statements in accordance with the law unless there is a suspicion that they may flee or tamper with evidence.
In his statement, Yavaş also said that whether public losses exist is a legal matter that will emerge through Court of Accounts audits and the judicial process. He added that there was no possibility of any documents disappearing from the municipalities.
Mayor Yavaş once again emphasized the principle that the law should be applied equally to everyone, amid serious allegations awaiting answers from the public, particularly the fund issue that has affected thousands of people, as well as ongoing debates over alleged public losses.
Mansur Yavaş’s statement calls for the process to be handled within a legal framework and for the allegations to be addressed through judicial and auditing mechanisms. His emphasis that elected mayors should be invited to give statements highlights the importance of protecting the legal rights and obligations of those involved in the process. The outcome of Court of Accounts audits and the judicial proceedings will provide the legal basis for determining whether public losses occurred.
