Bitcoin approaches $81K as traders watch the Fed decision and accumulation signals, sparking renewed market optimism and volatility.
Bitcoin edged higher, approaching $81,000 during Wednesday’s Asian morning session, recovering from a weekend dip near $79,000 as market participants positioned themselves ahead of the Federal Reserve’s imminent rate decision.
Major altcoins also posted gains: ZEC led the pack with an 8% jump to about $1,320, reclaiming levels above $1,300 after Monday’s decline. HYPE climbed nearly 5% to roughly $81. XRP and DOGE each rose about 3%, while ether added 2% to trade just north of $2,350. SOL moved up around 2% to $102, BNB gained 1%, and TRX recorded a modest increase of under 1% (CoinDesk data).
Galaxy’s research team urged investors to consider accumulation now, arguing that the bear market likely ended in June. Alex Thorn, head of firmwide research, highlighted June as a potential market bottom when bitcoin dipped below $58,000.
Thorn pointed to several supportive signals: bitcoin’s rebound above its 50-week moving average (a common gauge of long-term trend), reduced selling pressure, and rising U.S. debt levels. Together, these factors underpin Galaxy’s view that bitcoin has entered an accumulation phase that historically precedes major advances.
Traders are paying close attention to Fed Chair Kevin Warsh’s press conference for clues about a possible December rate hike. An interest-rate increase would raise borrowing costs and typically dampen flows into risk assets such as cryptocurrencies, a dynamic that could weigh on further gains.
