Tax expert Ozan Bingöl stated that the total tax burden in 2027 will reach TRY 19 trillion 906 billion, while the budget is expected to run a deficit of TRY 3 trillion 868 billion. Bingöl argued that the increase in the lowest income tax bracket remains insufficient.
Tax expert Ozan Bingöl stated that the total amount of taxes citizens will pay in 2027 will reach TRY 19 trillion 906 billion, adding that the budget is expected to run a deficit of TRY 3 trillion 868 billion. Bingöl argued that salaried employees have suffered income losses over the years because the lowest income tax bracket has not been increased in line with the revaluation rate.
Tax burden calculated by the second, minute, hour and year
Ozan Bingöl shared projections for the 2027 tax burden, breaking down the figures by time period. According to his calculations, taxes paid will amount to TRY 631,215 per second, TRY 37.872 million per minute, TRY 2.272 billion per hour and TRY 54.536 billion per day. The total over 12 months is projected to reach TRY 19 trillion 906 billion.
Bingöl also drew attention to the fact that the budget is expected to run a deficit of TRY 3 trillion 868 billion despite these tax revenues.
Criticism over the revaluation of income tax brackets
Stating that the lowest income tax bracket will be TRY 240,000 in 2027, Bingöl said that this figure should have exceeded TRY 665,000 if the Revaluation Rate had been applied in full since 2000.
Criticizing the way tax legislation has been structured, Bingöl argued that the incomes of millions of salaried employees have gradually been eroded through the tax brackets over the years. He expressed this criticism in the following words:
“Due to the flawed(!) design of the legislation and other reasons, the earnings of millions of salaried workers have been taken away bit by bit over the years, quietly and gradually trimmed down.”
