Economist, former Istanbul MP, and former Motherland Party leader Nesrin Nas made striking statements regarding diploma cancellations, democracy, and the rule of law in Türkiye, warning that growing uncertainty could trigger severe economic and social consequences.
Economist, former Istanbul Member of Parliament, and former leader of the Motherland Party Nesrin Nas made sharp statements concerning democracy, the rule of law, and the economic climate in Türkiye.
Nas criticized recent developments by saying, “Did we really think that those who cancel a 35-year-old diploma would not also shut down universities? They can shut down universities, even the 107-year-old CHP, and seize your property and land as well.”
She emphasized that the growing climate of uncertainty and unpredictability in Türkiye could have not only political but also severe economic consequences. According to Nas, the erosion of legal certainty poses a serious threat to investor confidence and public welfare.
Claiming that authorities are sending a message of “There is nothing we cannot do,” Nas warned that if this process continues, society could eventually face difficulties even in meeting basic economic needs.
Nas further stressed that economic crises are deeply linked to insecurity and concerns over the justice system, adding that protecting democratic institutions is vital for Türkiye’s long-term economic stability.
