Israel exit polls show no decisive winner as turnout exceeds 74%, signaling uncertainty and a tight contest with major implications.
Exit polls in Israel’s key legislative election on Tuesday indicated no clear victor, with both Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu and main rival Gadi Eisenkot falling short of a majority. The vote was held in Israel and marked the country’s first election since the Hamas attacks of 7 October 2023.
Turnout for the election reached over 74 percent, according to Israel’s Central Elections Committee. Netanyahu spent much of the day urging his supporters to vote, framing the election as a matter of life and death.
The contest was widely viewed as a referendum on Netanyahu’s leadership, and the exit polls left the overall outcome uncertain as results began to come in.
The exit polls suggest a closely contested election without an immediate majority for either leading figure, which points to a likely period of coalition negotiations and political uncertainty. High turnout emphasizes the election’s significance for the electorate and the centrality of leadership legitimacy in the vote.
