CHP Chairman Özgür Özel visited protesting Doruk Mining workers in Ankara, emphasizing labor rights and the importance of worker organization.
Republican People’s Party (CHP) Chairman Özgür Özel visited Doruk Mining workers continuing their protest at Kurtuluş Park in Ankara under the leadership of the Independent Mine Workers Union. Meeting with workers demanding their rights, Özel expressed strong support for their resistance.
In his speech, Özel stated that workers had not received their wages and compensation for months, criticizing the management of Doruk Mining. He noted that the workers’ march had attracted widespread attention across Türkiye, describing the struggle as an example not only for miners but for all laborers.
Özel emphasized that the protest has strong public support, saying, “The people see your struggle and stand with you. This resistance is a guiding light for all those whose rights have been violated.” He argued that the current administration positions itself alongside capital rather than labor.
Referring to the history of the Independent Mine Workers Union, Özel highlighted its role in helping Soma miners secure their rights. He also recalled the deaths of union figures Tahir Çetin and Ali Faik İnter, noting that the labor struggle has come at a heavy cost.
Marking April 23 National Sovereignty and Children’s Day, Özel drew attention to miners’ families present at the protest site, including children supporting their parents’ demands for justice. He reaffirmed that the CHP stands firmly with the workers.
Concluding his remarks, Özel stressed the importance of worker organization, stating, “When a people’s government comes to power, Türkiye’s working class will organize and claim its rights. No one will be able to exploit workers’ labor.” He ended by saluting the resistance of Doruk Mining workers.
