Liberal Party Chairman Zübeyir Gülabi has issued a wide-ranging statement on recent political and legal developments in Turkey, directing particularly sharp criticism at the government and the DEM Party over their positions on religious communities and the proposed “Framework Law.”

Gülabi argued that recent developments should be assessed alongside Turkey’s broader political and judicial history. He also raised questions about the treatment of individuals involved in ongoing legal proceedings, drug-related crime and what he described as growing pressure on civil society groups.

Gülabi’s statement is as follows:

PERİNÇEK AND OPERATIONS AGAINST RELIGIOUS COMMUNITIES,
THE FRAMEWORK LAW

I have questions for politicians from the AK Party:

– Are you happy to be implementing Perinçek’s anti-religious plans?

– Perinçek appears to be happy. Has he thanked you for beginning to eradicate religious communities and orders?

– Were you not ashamed to raise allegations that Kuriş, the leader of the Süleymanlı community, was involved in a murder?

In fact, your parliamentary group deputy chairman already gave the answer: He said, “WE ARE NOT ASHAMED.”

Someone bearing the title of an expert prepared a report, without seeing the Forensic Medicine report, in order to form an opinion on whether the allegations were true in return for payment. Your supportive media then used that report.

You arrested Alpaslan Kuytul and his wife, Semra Kuytul. The court is in Adana, yet Alpaslan Kuytul was sent to Erzurum; Semra Kuytul was first sent to Diyarbakır and then transferred to Samsun. When people you know to be innocent refuse to submit, they are subjected to suffering through transfers.

This is how it had started before as well: “Six parts worship, the middle part commerce” was said, and the “worship” part was put in prison. The property and assets of the “commerce” part were seized as well. “Justice markets” were established in courthouses to take their money. In the struggle over the distribution of the money in this market, an attorney general was dismissed by the Council of Judges and Prosecutors. A provincial deputy party chairman was killed. The hitman was brought from Argentina.

While you were doing this, drug use became widespread among the public. At Keçiören Municipality, drug tests were administered to 213 people. 171 of the 213 tests came back positive. More than 200,000 people are in prisons for drug-related offenses. But there are no kingpins.

You have taken away from the people of Turkey;

– Their hope,

– Their happiness,

– And left them dependent on drugs.

Politicians from the AK Party, thanks to you, Perinçek has become the happiest politician in Turkey.

How could he not be?

– In February 28, he said, “The Reform Laws should be implemented”: You implemented them!

– He said, “We will eradicate religious orders and communities”: You are doing the eradication yourselves.

Just a few months ago, you declared war on the religious communities that the Minister of National Education had described as “civil society.” You are also transferring resources to Perinçek’s publications through advertisements from public banks. Who could be happier than Perinçek? You made him happy…

DEM Party officials, who have made no effort to broaden the scope of the Framework Law beyond Öcalan and PKK members, are demanding support for the process while responding to criticism with extremely harsh and discriminatory language.

A PARTY THAT HAS SURRENDERED ITS WILL TO THE LEADER OF A TERRORIST ORGANIZATION COULD NOT BE EXPECTED TO ADOPT A DEMOCRATIC ATTITUDE.

The Authoritarian Trio;

The AK Party, MHP and Öcalan have joined forces for a more authoritarian system.

DEM Party officials now use a condescending and dismissive tone toward those who criticize them. Apparently, they oppose criticism of Öcalan. Everyone has the right to criticize a narcissist who allegedly caused the deaths of 50,000 people, including 14,000 police officers and soldiers, through an organization that forcibly recruited 27,000 Kurdish youths, including children, from villages.

We have seen that pursuing opportunities created by political circumstances, without demanding genuine democracy, does not bring democracy or human rights.

We believe that genuine peace can only exist within a liberal democracy where the rule of law is established.

Zübeyir Gülabi’s statement addressed several contentious issues in Turkey’s political and legal agenda, including government policies toward religious communities, judicial proceedings, drug-related crime and the proposed Framework Law. Gülabi argued that political maneuvering alone cannot deliver lasting democratic reform, emphasizing instead the need for the rule of law, genuine democracy and a liberal political order as the foundation for lasting peace.
