Happy 573rd anniversary of the Conquest of Istanbul! I respectfully and reverently commemorate the great commander, Sultan Mehmed the Conqueror (Fatih Sultan Mehmet Han).

A statement attributed to Fatih Sultan Mehmet centuries ago still resonates in minds today:

“If you destroy reason, morality dies as well. When reason and morality die, the nation becomes divided. The day you buy the judge, justice dies. The day you kill justice, the state dies too.”

This is not merely advice from the past; it is a civilizational principle established for the survival of both the state and society.

If people in a country are afraid to think, if different opinions are treated as hostility, and if loyalty replaces merit, then reason is the first thing to weaken. When reason weakens, conscience falls silent. When conscience is silenced, people begin to lose trust in one another.

The true strength of a state lies not in harsh rhetoric, but in its citizens’ faith in justice.

A state is strong when its people believe their rights will be protected when they stand before a court. But when they begin to say, “Even if I am right, the outcome will not change,” that is when the real danger begins.

Justice is not a privilege.

Justice is a common safeguard needed by those in power and those in opposition, by the rich and the poor alike. When justice collapses, hope, unity, and the future collapse with it.

Our duty is to nurture conscience instead of anger, fairness instead of fear, and common sense instead of polarization.
