Elon Musk commits $200M in a pivotal quarter to support Republican Senate campaigns, reshaping fundraising and political influence ahead of key elections.
Elon Musk donated more than $200m in the quarter ending 30 September to support Republican efforts to retain control of Congress, according to Federal Election Commission filings reviewed by the BBC. The filings were released with just over two weeks remaining until the 2026 midterm election, where several House of Representatives and Senate races are competitive and Republican majorities are at risk.
The largest single portion of the donations, $158m, went to the Senate Leadership Fund super PAC, which in turn directed funds to a group supporting Texas Attorney General Ken Paxton, who faces a close contest against Democrat James Talarico. Musk also contributed over $80m to America Pac, the organization he founded during the 2024 campaign, and $10m to Lone Star Liberty Pac, a group primarily backing Ken Paxton.
America Pac spent millions last quarter on digital communications, mailings and phone calls opposing James Talarico while allocating funds for political marketing in support of Ken Paxton. Super PACs, which can raise unlimited amounts of money, played a central role in redistributing the donations detailed in the FEC filings.
Musk previously invested substantial resources in the 2024 election cycle, contributing approximately $290m to efforts that supported President Donald Trump and other Republican candidates. The recent donations underscore a continued pattern of large political contributions by the world’s richest individual.
The concentrated flow of funding to the Senate Leadership Fund and Texas-focused groups highlights a strategic priority on maintaining Republican influence in key races, particularly in Texas where Musk has relocated portions of his business operations. The allocations to America Pac and Lone Star Liberty Pac emphasize targeted investment in competitive contests rather than broad dispersal across numerous campaigns.
The filings show that digital communications, mailings and phone outreach remain primary tactics for these groups to influence voter opinions in tight races. Musk’s quarter of large donations follows a pattern of tech-sector involvement in political financing aimed at shaping regulatory and business environments.
