The ongoing struggle of Yusuf Karakaya, an imam dismissed from public service under a decree law (KHK), has once again drawn public attention. According to journalist Ahmet Erkan, Karakaya recently faced a serious health crisis after years of economic hardship and social challenges.

A father of two, Karakaya has reportedly worked in a variety of jobs to support his family since losing his position. Erkan stated that he has collected discarded items from garbage bins for resale, sold second-hand goods at flea markets, worked as a taxi driver, and taken construction jobs to earn a living.

According to Erkan, Karakaya was working at a construction site when his appendix ruptured. Unaware of the severity of his condition and dependent on daily wages, he continued working despite intense pain and discomfort.

His condition worsened over the following days, and he was eventually rushed to the hospital, where doctors determined that he had suffered severe complications. Karakaya underwent emergency surgery and spent approximately eight days receiving treatment.

Medical professionals reportedly described his condition as life-threatening, saying that he narrowly escaped death.

Recovery Continues at Home

Following surgery, Karakaya was discharged from the hospital and is currently undergoing antibiotic treatment at home. Because he will be unable to work for some time, concerns have been raised about the financial challenges facing his family.

Ahmet Erkan emphasized that Karakaya is now in greater need of solidarity and support than ever before.
