Bitcoin climbed to the highest level in a week, trading around $83,500 after a modest 0.6% rise since midnight UTC. The move came alongside a rebound in Asian technology shares, driven in part by upbeat corporate earnings that helped lift broader risk assets.

Reports that SpaceX and Super Micro Computer posted strong results spurred U.S. tech momentum, while South Korea’s Kospi jumped 3.29% and Nasdaq 100 futures added 0.44%. Elon Musk said special committees have been formed to discuss a potential merger between SpaceX and Tesla, a deal that would combine more than 30,000 bitcoin (roughly $2.5 billion) held across their balance sheets.

Market breadth and altcoins

  • Altcoins tracked bitcoin’s rise: Ether traded near $2,460, up about 0.6%, and broader indices showed mixed gains — the CoinDesk 80 (CD80) rose 0.47% while the CoinDesk 5 (CD5) gained 0.64%. The CoinDesk Memecoin Index led with a 1.2% advance, ahead of the CoinDesk 100’s 0.84%.

  • Protocol updates and corporate headlines mattered: Solana’s Alpenglow upgrade, targeting finality around 150 milliseconds, launched today. Meta Platforms is scheduled to report after the U.S. market close, adding another catalyst for traders.

Derivatives positioning

  • Futures and liquidations picked up: Twenty-four-hour crypto futures volume rose 19% to $190 billion, while open interest (OI) climbed nearly 4% to $145 billion. Liquidations jumped 76% to $284 million, and the taker long/short ratio sat near 53% long versus 47% short, indicating a modest bias toward bullish activity.

  • Price moves outpaced new speculative inflows: Over the past day, spot prices increased about 2.6% for BTC and 3.35% for ETH, while futures OI rose roughly 3% and 2%, respectively. Bitcoin’s OI expansion was roughly in line with its price gain, suggesting limited fresh capital. Ethereum’s OI lagged its price advance, hinting at position trimming in coin terms.

  • Privacy tokens drew fresh leverage: Zcash’s OI climbed 24% against a 12% price gain, signaling new leveraged interest despite an annualized funding rate near 10% and a negative 24-hour OI-adjusted cumulative volume delta (CVD), which implies sellers were hitting bids into the rally. Monero’s OI rose about 8% to just above $300 million — near record levels — with funding around 4% and a positive CVD, the only major coin showing that pattern.

  • High funding costs for some shorts: BTW shorts are paying an annualized funding rate near -77%, illustrating how much bears are willing to pay to maintain positions and marking BTW as a token to monitor for squeezes. ARB and ETC show mildly negative funding as well.

  • Volatility expectations cooled: Bitcoin’s 30-day implied volatility index (BVIV) eased back under 40% after briefly rising above 42% on Oct. 15. Ether’s implied volatility (EVIV) displayed a similar calming trend, indicating market expectations of steadier price action.

  • Options flow favors downside protection yet sees upside activity: On Deribit, one-month put-call skew for bitcoin registered about 8%, signalling a relative preference for puts; one-week and three-month skews showed similar put bias. Still, the most-traded contracts were calls struck above spot, primarily executed via synthetic, multi-legged strategies rather than outright directional bets. Ethereum options also leaned toward puts, though less pronounced than bitcoin’s skew.

Token highlights

  • Zcash (ZEC): ZEC rose about 0.9% since midnight to roughly $1,260, extending a 24-hour gain near 11% after developers set a November activation for NU7 — an upgrade that cuts block times from 75 to 25 seconds, speeds payment confirmations roughly threefold, and redirects 60% of transaction fees into a time-distributed reserve. Despite the rally, ZEC remains down about 12% over the month.

  • Near (NEAR): NEAR led the CoinDesk 100 risers, gaining about 6% to near $5.23. The move coincides with increased usage of NEAR Intents (a cross-chain swap service that channels fees partially into token buybacks) and a governance proposal to lower annual issuance from 2.5% to 1.6% over two years.

  • Ethena (ENA): ENA, which underpins the USDe synthetic dollar, climbed roughly 4.8% after rebounding from a month-to-date drop near 22%. USDe’s outstanding supply of about $4.7 billion remains below the $7.5 billion threshold that would trigger ENA buybacks.

  • Aerodrome (AERO) and Morpho (MORPHO): AERO, the Base exchange token, slid about 4.4%, reversing part of a weekly gain near 6%. Morpho eased 2.7% as DeFi lagged; the sector index was up only 0.22% versus 0.84% for the CD100.

  • Injective (INJ): INJ slipped around 2.1% to about $8.75, trimming a monthly gain near 18% that had been supported by pending U.S. exchange-traded fund applications tied to the token.
