Lies and Truths…

The government tells one story, the opposition tells another, and the people live an entirely different reality…

Everyone believes the truth is on their side. Yet truth is not a matter of political allegiance; it is a matter of conscience and reason.

The government conceals the truth with its lies, the opposition gets caught up in its own contradictions, and the public continues to mistake the lies presented to them for reality.

Like the profound ache woven into Behçet Aysan’s Karasevda (Love Sickness), this country’s own love story seems to have been left unfinished.

We have forgotten how to love—to love humanity, to listen to our conscience, and to care for one another.

“They tell you that life is death
and that lies are the truth.”

Behçet Aysan

May his soul rest in peace, and may his memory live on.

Behçet Aysan was a psychiatrist, a poet, and, above all, a human being. Through his ideas and poetry, he enriched the cultural life of this country. Those who had lost all sense of humanity burned him and many other intellectuals alive during the Madımak Massacre in Sivas on July 2, 1993.

Years have passed, yet the lies have changed their shape, while the truth has remained unchanged. We still marginalize one another, turn differences into hostility, label people according to which side they belong to, and poison the brief lives we have been given.

Perhaps all of this comes down to one thing:

Lies, lies, and more lies…

Nothing built on lies can endure forever.
