Arrest made near the White House after an armed suspect threatened President Trump; authorities investigate incident and ensure security measures.
Authorities arrested a man near the White House on Thursday evening after he told officers he had heard voices instructing him to kill President Donald Trump and was found with multiple firearms in his vehicle.
Secret Service officers observed the suspect acting suspiciously while parked on Constitution Avenue in Washington and approached him. During the encounter the man stated he had heard voices telling him to kill President Donald Trump, and officers discovered the vehicle had been reported stolen.
Upon searching the vehicle, officers located three different firearms, including a rifle, and dozens of rounds of ammunition. The suspect admitted to having weapons in the vehicle and was subsequently arrested.
The suspect was identified as Venezuelan national Ronny Yordrix Guanipa Chrinos. He has been charged with multiple offenses, including possession of dangerous weapons and theft, and is in the custody of the US Marshals Service. Department of Homeland Security officials stated Chrinos had illegally entered the United States through Texas in March 2024.
Secret Service Director Sean Curran commented that the incident reflects a heightened threat environment and expressed alarm at the increase in threat cases around the White House complex. Homeland Security Secretary Markwayne Mullin praised the Secret Service officers for arresting what he described as a criminal illegal alien with three firearms near the White House before anyone was harmed.
The arrest underscores ongoing security challenges faced by protective agencies around the White House, illustrated by a recent case in which a suspect parked near the complex with stolen vehicle status and multiple firearms. The discovery of three firearms including a rifle and the suspect’s admission of hearing voices and possessing weapons highlight both criminal and public safety dimensions of the incident. Officials emphasized the frequency of armed individuals drawn to the White House complex and framed the arrest as a demonstration of trained response capabilities by Secret Service personnel.
