US Central Command reported that a US military aircraft fired precision munitions at the stern of the St. Kitts-flagged M/V Huda in the Gulf of Oman after the civilian crew ignored repeated warnings and attempted to violate the naval blockade of Iran. CENTCOM said forces directed the crew to abandon targeted spaces before the ship was disabled, and that the cargo vessel tried to depart regional waters after visiting an Iranian port.

CENTCOM added that since July US forces have redirected 147 commercial vessels that complied with the blockade, and have disabled five merchant ships that refused to comply. The statement also noted that CENTCOM previously destroyed another 10 Iranian commercial oil tankers alleged to be part of the Islamic Revolutionary Guards Corps’ shadow network.

The United Kingdom Maritime Trade Operations agency received a report of an incident involving a bulk carrier and military forces in the Gulf of Oman about 18 nautical miles east of Khor Fakkan on the east coast of the United Arab Emirates. The UAE National Guard announced that 22 people had been rescued from a cargo ship in the gulf.

In a separate statement, Iran’s Revolutionary Guards navy claimed that two oil tankers struck mines near the Strait of Hormuz and caught fire after allegedly transiting via an unauthorised route and switching off their navigation and positioning systems. The IRGC warned that any vessel cooperating with the US military or entering unauthorised areas risks striking a mine, and criticised CENTCOM’s commander in its remarks.

Tensions between Tehran and Washington have risen in recent days following reports of explosions on Qeshm Island and later reports that US forces had targeted an Iranian air defence system. Iranian news agencies reported further explosions in Qeshm, Sirik, Jask and Bandar Abbas.

Liberal News Analysis: What Does This Development Mean?

The reported disabling of M/V Huda underscores an intensification of enforcement measures in the maritime choke points adjacent to Iran, with CENTCOM emphasizing blockade compliance and the use of force when warnings are not heeded. Parallel IRGC claims of tankers striking mines and warnings about unauthorised transits highlight competing narratives and the potential for miscalculation in the Strait of Hormuz and nearby waters. Recent reports of explosions on Qeshm Island and US actions against an Iranian air defence system contribute to a broader pattern of escalating incidents that increase maritime and regional security risks.
