U.S. President Donald Trump has arrived in Ankara for the NATO Leaders’ Summit, where he was officially welcomed by Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdoğan. The two leaders are expected to hold high-level talks on regional security, NATO priorities, and bilateral cooperation.
ANKARA – U.S. President Donald Trump arrived in the Turkish capital on Tuesday to participate in the NATO Leaders’ Summit, receiving an official welcome from Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdoğan upon landing in Ankara.
Trump traveled aboard Air Force One, the presidential Boeing 747-8, which touched down at Etimesgut Airport. President Erdoğan greeted his American counterpart with a formal reception ceremony marking the beginning of Trump’s official visit.
The welcoming ceremony began with President Erdoğan inspecting the ceremonial guard before greeting President Trump with a handshake. The two leaders exchanged a brief conversation before proceeding together to the official reception area.
Walking side by side across the ceremonial turquoise carpet, Trump saluted the Honor Guard, greeting the soldiers with the words, “Hello, soldiers.”
Following the official ceremony, President Erdoğan and President Trump traveled to Turkey’s newly inaugurated 2,400-square-meter State Guest House, where the first stage of their diplomatic program was scheduled to take place.
The leaders are expected to continue their meetings later at the Presidential Complex, with discussions focusing on NATO’s strategic agenda, regional security challenges, defense cooperation, and bilateral relations between Türkiye and the United States.
The highly anticipated Erdoğan–Trump talks are regarded as one of the most significant bilateral meetings taking place alongside the NATO Leaders’ Summit in Ankara. International observers are closely watching whether the two presidents will issue a joint statement following their discussions.
