“A new integrated economic order dominated by capital is being established. This order is constructing its own legal system, political regime, labor conditions, and international relations — including wars. The AKP government and its leadership represent the Türkiye side of this process. The opposition has very little chance of succeeding if it fails to properly understand this process and its role within it.”

So, what should the opposition do?

The biggest problem of the Turkish opposition is that it still interprets the ongoing crisis merely as an issue of electoral engineering or personalized rule. However, the structure it faces is far deeper, more structural, and institutional.

First of all, the opposition must correctly analyze the economic foundation of the new regime. Because the issue is not only about violations of the constitution; it is also about the construction of a new capital accumulation model. Therefore, merely saying “we will restore the rule of law” will not be enough. Without offering people a new economic vision for the future, political transformation will not be possible.

Secondly, the opposition must reach not only the urban middle classes, but also villagers harmed by mining policies, precarious young workers, low-wage laborers, and broad social groups pushed outside the system. A new social coalition can only be built around common economic demands.

Thirdly, the opposition must abandon its passive strategy of postponing the state crisis to a “post-Erdoğan era.” Because the current system is becoming institutionalized not only around a single leader, but also around bureaucratic, economic, and security networks.

“In Türkiye, the issue of democracy is no longer merely about election security. It has become a historic choice concerning what kind of economy, what kind of state model, and what kind of social structure the country will live under.”
