Liberal Party Chairman Zübeyir Gülabi Reacts Strongly to CHP Headquarters Raid Attempt

Liberal Party Chairman Zübeyir Gülabi issued a sharp statement regarding allegations of a police intervention attempt at CHP Headquarters. Gülabi declared, “We condemn the police raid on CHP headquarters and the appointed officials demanding it,” arguing that increasing pressure on political parties poses a direct threat to democracy in Türkiye.

According to Gülabi, attempts to influence political party administration through police force, bureaucracy, or appointed authorities are unacceptable in a democratic state governed by the rule of law. He stressed that the developments concerning CHP are not merely a partisan issue, but a broader matter concerning political pluralism and democratic legitimacy in Türkiye.

“Political Parties Must Be Governed by the Will of Their Members”

Gülabi emphasized that political parties are fundamental pillars of democratic systems and stated:

“Political parties are not governed by governments, bureaucracies, or appointed authorities, but by the will of their members and delegates. Democracy is not the replacement of elected representatives with the will of appointed officials; it is the free organization of the people’s will.”

He further argued that attempts to evacuate a political party’s headquarters through police intervention constitute a direct attack on democratic politics.

“Türkiye Needs a Liberal Democratic Order”

The Liberal Party leader also addressed what he described as growing lawlessness in recent years, claiming that such practices are now targeting the main opposition party as well. Gülabi asserted that Türkiye’s real need is not a guardianship-based political mentality, but a liberal democratic order founded on free competition, the rule of law, and national sovereignty.

He warned that using state power to shape political life would weaken democracy and deepen social tensions across the country.
