Judge declares mistrial in Lindsay Clancy murder case after jury deadlock

The jury in the trial of Lindsay Clancy was declared deadlocked and a mistrial was entered after jurors told the court they could not unanimously decide whether she should be held criminally responsible for the deaths of her three young children in Massachusetts.

Reddington sought an emergency order from the Massachusetts Supreme Judicial Court asking the judge to force continued deliberations and to question the alleged holdout juror; the court denied the request. Reddington said he would file additional motions asking the mistrial be reconsidered. A hearing is scheduled for 29 September to consider next steps.

Plymouth County District Attorney Timothy Cruz said investigators believe Clancy was in control when the homicides occurred and that the office would meet to decide whether to retry the case or pursue other options, including a plea agreement. Meanwhile, Clancy remains held on the same murder charges and housed in a mental health facility.
