ISTANBUL (IHA) – Fenerbahçe secured a memorable 3-2 victory over Liverpool in the fourth round of the UEFA Champions League, overcoming two separate deficits in front of their home supporters at Şükrü Saracoğlu Stadium.
Liverpool took the lead in the 25th minute when Trey Nyoni’s effort from the edge of the penalty area found the net after deflecting off Kojo Oppong. Fenerbahçe responded just four minutes later. Mason Greenwood’s free-kick from outside the penalty area took a deflection off Jeremy Jacquet in the defensive wall before crossing the goal line to make it 1-1.
The first half ended level, with both teams creating several promising opportunities. N’Golo Kante came close to scoring for Fenerbahçe in the 16th minute, while İrfan Can Kahveci struck the crossbar two minutes after Liverpool’s opening goal.
Liverpool regained the advantage in the 69th minute. Cody Gakpo delivered a cross from the left, and Alexander Isak rose above the defense to head the ball into the net despite Ederson’s attempted intervention.
Fenerbahçe refused to surrender. In the 73rd minute, Kante sent the ball into the penalty area, where Liverpool failed to clear the danger. Archie Brown reacted quickly at the far post, guiding the ball into the unguarded net to level the score at 2-2.
The decisive moment arrived six minutes later. Brown launched a long throw-in from the right, with Milan Skriniar redirecting the ball back toward him near the front post. Brown immediately delivered a cross into the box, and Vedat Muriqi powered a header into the net from just behind the six-yard area.
The goal put Fenerbahçe ahead 3-2, a lead they maintained until the final whistle. The Istanbul side celebrated a significant Champions League victory after an impressive second-half comeback.
