Lawyer Hatice Yıldız criticizes the withholding of acquittal decisions following ECHR violation rulings: “These decisions can benefit thousands of people.”
Lawyer Hatice Yıldız made a striking statement regarding the lack of public sharing of acquittal decisions issued after rulings by the European Court of Human Rights. In remarks shared on social media, Yıldız stated that she has heard of individuals instructing their lawyers not to share such decisions.
Yıldız emphasized that this situation is problematic both legally and ethically, underlining that court decisions are public and that sharing them poses no harm. On the contrary, she noted that these rulings could serve as guidance for thousands of people facing similar legal processes.
She further stated that sharing acquittal decisions issued after retrials based on ECHR violation rulings would contribute to the pursuit of justice, while keeping such information hidden undermines the collective benefit.
“Keeping this information to oneself is neither humane nor consistent with the fight against injustice,” Yıldız said, stressing that sharing such decisions is a responsibility. She also added that withholding this information may carry a moral burden.
