Türkiye’s Statistical Institute (TÜİK) has released its 2025 International Migration Statistics, revealing a significant increase in inbound migration. According to the official data, 393,829 people moved to Türkiye from abroad during 2025, while 403,216 people left the country to live overseas. Istanbul remained the leading province for both immigration and emigration.

The number of people relocating to Türkiye rose by 25.2% compared with the previous year. Of those arriving from abroad, 56.6% were men and 43.4% were women. Turkish citizens accounted for 91,952 of the arrivals, while 301,877 were foreign nationals.

Meanwhile, outward migration declined by 5% year-on-year. A total of 403,216 individuals moved from Türkiye to other countries in 2025. Men represented 55.3% of emigrants and women accounted for 44.7%. Among those leaving the country, 155,119 were Turkish citizens and 248,097 were foreign nationals.

Age-group analysis showed that young adults made up the largest share of migration movements. Among people arriving in Türkiye, the 20–24 age group represented 16.3% of all newcomers, followed by the 25–29 age group at 13.7% and the 30–34 age group at 11.5%.

For those leaving Türkiye, the highest proportion was recorded in the 25–29 age category, which accounted for 14.3% of all departures. The 20–24 age group followed with 12.5%, while individuals aged 30–34 represented 12% of emigrants.

Istanbul received the largest share of international arrivals, attracting 42.2% of all immigrants entering Türkiye. Antalya ranked second with 9.1%, followed by Ankara with 6.7%, İzmir with 3.1%, and Bursa with 2.9%.

The same trend was observed in emigration figures. Istanbul accounted for 35.4% of all departures from Türkiye, ahead of Ankara, Antalya, Mersin, and İzmir.

Among foreign nationals arriving in Türkiye, citizens of Turkmenistan formed the largest group, representing 23.4% of total foreign arrivals. They were followed by citizens of Azerbaijan, Uzbekistan, Egypt, and Afghanistan.

On the emigration side, Iraqi nationals constituted the largest foreign group leaving Türkiye, accounting for 15.7% of all foreign departures. Afghan, Russian, Iranian, and Turkmen citizens followed in the ranking.

The 2025 International Migration Statistics highlight Türkiye’s continuing role as both a destination and transit country in regional migration flows, with major metropolitan areas remaining the primary centers of population movement.
