TÜİK: Gold Delivered the Highest Real Return in August

Türkiye’s Statistical Institute (TÜİK) reported that bullion gold generated the highest real return among financial investment instruments in August 2026. Gold gained 7.93% after adjustment for consumer inflation and 7.17% based on producer prices, while it also ranked first in the annual assessment.

Türkiye’s Statistical Institute (TÜİK) has released its latest data on the real returns of financial investment instruments for August 2026, showing that bullion gold stood out as the strongest-performing investment on a monthly basis.

According to the figures, bullion gold generated a real return of 7.17% when adjusted according to the Domestic Producer Price Index (D-PPI). When measured against the Consumer Price Index (CPI), its real return reached 7.93%.

Government Domestic Debt Securities (GDDS) posted a real return of 0.66% against D-PPI, followed by the euro at 0.61% and gross deposit interest at 0.33%.

In contrast, the US dollar recorded a real loss of 0.86%, while the BIST 100 index declined by 1.83% after adjustment for producer prices.

On a CPI-adjusted basis, GDDS generated a real return of 1.38%, the euro 1.34%, and deposit interest 1.05%. The US dollar recorded a 0.15% real loss, while the BIST 100 index lost 1.13%.

Government bonds lead over three months

Over the three-month period, Government Domestic Debt Securities emerged as the best-performing investment instrument.

GDDS generated a real return of 3.46% when adjusted for D-PPI and 4.77% when adjusted for CPI.

The BIST 100 index recorded the weakest performance during the same period, posting real losses of 7.15% on a D-PPI-adjusted basis and 5.98% on a CPI-adjusted basis.

Deposit interest leads six-month performance

Over the six-month period, gross deposit interest produced the highest real return among the investment instruments monitored by TÜİK.

Deposit interest generated a real return of 1.19% against D-PPI and 2.87% against CPI.

Bullion gold, meanwhile, recorded the largest real decline over the six-month period, losing 19.35% against D-PPI and 18.01% against CPI.

Gold remains the top performer over one year

The annual figures once again placed bullion gold at the top of the rankings.

Gold generated a real return of 19.73% when adjusted for D-PPI and 16.49% when adjusted for CPI, making it the investment instrument with the highest annual real return.

On a D-PPI-adjusted basis, GDDS delivered a 4.21% real return, while gross deposit interest gained 3.35%. The BIST 100 index recorded a 0.20% real loss, while the US dollar and euro posted losses of 8.36% and 8.68%, respectively.

When adjusted for CPI, GDDS generated a 1.39% real return and gross deposit interest gained 0.56%. The BIST 100 index lost 2.90%, while the US dollar and euro recorded real losses of 10.84% and 11.16%, respectively.
