Train collides with a concrete mixer at Sokolniki Suche crossing, killing one; investigation underway into cause and emergency response.
An intercity train derailed after striking a concrete mixer truck at a level crossing in Sokolniki Suche, about 100km south of Warsaw, at around 11:20 (09:20 GMT), killing one passenger and injuring 20 people, including four seriously, PKP Intercity reported.
The train carried about 120 passengers when the collision occurred. Officials said the cement mixer hit the carriage immediately behind the locomotive, causing extensive damage to some carriages and resulting in the derailment.
Deputy Infrastructure Minister Piotr Malepszak said the truck driver, who is among the injured, reported being blinded by the sun. Authorities stated it is too early to determine the full sequence of events.
