The MV San Pawl suffered a major technical failure on its starboard main engine, prompting operator Islands Unlimited to suspend foot passenger services between Jersey and Guernsey until further notice, the company said.

Engineers have begun a full assessment to establish the extent of the fault and determine when the vessel can return to service, the operator added. The suspension was introduced to ensure the safety of passengers, crew and the vessel.

Operations manager Jack Kitching said the company regretted the disruption during the peak summer season and that staff were working to provide alternative travel arrangements where available.
