The woman suspected in Monaco parcel bombing found dead in Ukraine, SBU reports

The Security Service of Ukraine (SBU) said the woman suspected of planting a parcel bomb that wounded a sanctioned Ukrainian multi-millionaire and his family in Monaco has been found dead in Ukraine; the 39-year-old was discovered with gunshot wounds to the head, and two men have been detained on suspicion of murder.

According to the SBU, the attack occurred on 29 June in the entrance hall of an apartment building in Monaco. The suspect, identified by Ukrainian authorities as Anastasiia Berezovska, returned to Ukraine on 1 July and communicated with family members and two men who are now under investigation.

The SBU statement said investigators linked the two men—a former law enforcement officer and a current officer in the Ministry of Defence’s main intelligence directorate—to the case because they had repeatedly transferred funds to Berezovska’s crypto and bank accounts.

The agency added that the intelligence officer confessed to killing Berezovska and implicated another suspect. During a search of the former law enforcement officer’s residence, authorities found a basement room described as resembling a torture chamber.

Both men were detained on suspicion of committing murder with premeditation by a group of individuals, the SBU said. The detained current MoD officer is reported to have acknowledged involvement in the killing.

The initial Monaco bombing injured the sanctioned Ukrainian multi-millionaire and members of his family; official casualty details were not expanded in the SBU’s statement. Law enforcement in Monaco had launched a cross-border manhunt after the attack.

The SBU said its investigation is ongoing and that further details will be released as they become available. Authorities are continuing inquiries into the financing links and the circumstances of Berezovska’s death.
