Deadly West Bank Shooting Leaves Multiple Palestinians and One Israeli Killed

At least four Palestinians and one Israeli were killed in a shooting in the occupied West Bank village of Tal, local and Israeli officials said, as tensions escalated during confrontations between residents, settlers and soldiers.

Eyewitnesses said the incident began early in the morning when locals in Tal moved to confront about 30 settlers who were reportedly attacking Palestinian homes; hand-to-hand clashes occurred in the presence of Israeli soldiers before gunfire erupted between settlers and local young men.

The Israel Defense Forces (IDF) said soldiers responded after receiving a report that Israeli civilians hiking nearby had come under attack. The IDF stated a security guard from a settler outpost was killed after his weapon was taken and used to shoot Israeli hikers, and that soldiers later “eliminated the terrorist who executed the terror attack.” The Israeli ambulance service reported two Israelis wounded.
