Channel Islands Pride to Proceed as Island Ferry Service Halts

Channel Islands Pride will go ahead in St Peter Port despite the early suspension of the Islands Unlimited inter-island ferry service after an engine failure on MV San Pawl, organisers said.

Islands Unlimited ended its season early, cancelling the planned foot passenger sailings between Guernsey and Jersey and weekend trips to Alderney that had been scheduled until 18 October, and reported the fault after a technical investigation.

Ellie Jones, Pride director and chief executive of Liberate, said the cancellation affected around 100 known day trippers but that the operator had acted promptly and could not have done more. Jones added that another charity helped charter a boat for the Lavender Menace choir so they could still attend.

Organisers said most visitors were expected to travel to the weekend events by other means and expressed optimism about the move to the Bathing Pools at La Vallette in St Peter Port, where they anticipate a strong turnout and a striking parade backdrop.
