Armed man subdued at Canfield Fair after rushing toward Amy Acton

An armed man was arrested at the Canfield Fair in Ohio after charging toward Democratic gubernatorial candidate Dr Amy Acton on Sunday, authorities said; Acton was unharmed while several bystanders sustained injuries as officers intervened.

The Ohio State Highway Patrol, assigned to protect Acton, said their team stopped the suspect before he reached her. The suspect, identified as 38-year-old Patrick Havas of Canfield, was carrying two pistols at the time of his arrest.

Mahoning County Sheriff Jerry Greene told CBS News that Havas pushed through the crowd while holding a cell phone and knocked over two people using mobility scooters. Havas is being held at the county jail and faces two counts of misdemeanor assault and one count of disorderly conduct.

Acton’s campaign said she and her husband Eric were grateful for the swift action of law enforcement and are praying for the recovery of those injured. Her communications director said the campaign condemned the violence and affirmed Acton’s commitment to standing against chaos and hate.

Republican rival Vivek Ramaswamy’s communications director condemned the incident and said candidates should be able to meet voters without threats or violence. Ohio Governor Mike DeWine also said there is no place for political violence at public events.
