Andrew and Tristan Tate arrested in US as the UK files extradition charges; legal teams prepare for high-profile proceedings and cross-border litigation.
Andrew Tate and his brother Tristan were arrested in the United States and are being held pending extradition after British authorities announced further criminal charges. The Crown Prosecution Service said Andrew Tate faces seven additional counts of rape along with allegations related to sex trafficking and child pornography, while Tristan Tate has been charged with one count of sexual assault, two counts of rape and three counts of arranging or facilitating trafficking for sexual exploitation.
The alleged offences are said to have occurred between July 2010 and August 2017. Prosecutors indicated the new charges followed receipt of an additional evidence file from Bedfordshire Police, bringing the total number of alleged victims in the case to seven, the CPS’s Malcolm McHaffie said.
The US Marshals Service confirmed the brothers were taken into custody and a US Department of Justice spokesperson said the arrests were made pursuant to extradition proceedings. The CPS stated prosecutors will seek extradition of the Tates to face the charges in the UK.
The Crown Prosecution Service has added further charges against Andrew Tate and charged Tristan Tate following new evidence submitted by Bedfordshire Police. The CPS noted the expanded case increases the number of alleged victims to seven, and UK prosecutors have signalled intent to pursue extradition. US authorities confirmed custody and described the detentions as part of extradition procedures.
