Bazoumana Toure has completed a £43m transfer to Newcastle United from Hoffenheim, the club confirmed, in a move finalised in 2026 that sees the 20-year-old Ivory Coast forward join the Premier League side and become a long-term replacement following Anthony Gordon’s departure.

Toure arrived in England after 18 months at Hoffenheim, having moved to Europe via Hammarby in 2024. Former Hammarby team-mate Nahir Besara said Toure is always smiling and ready to work, a trait that helped him settle quickly at each new club.

Hammarby sporting director Mikael Hjelmberg recalled first spotting Toure at ASEC Mimosas and praised his personality and positivity. Besara added that Toure has shown gratitude to those who supported him, citing an instance when Toure sent money to Besara the day before leaving Hammarby.

Newcastle pursued a left winger after Anthony Gordon’s £69.3m transfer to Barcelona in June and missing out on targets such as Victor Munoz. The club also moved to free financial space after agreeing a deal for Sandro Tonali to join Tottenham Hotspur for up to £100m, enabling further reinvestment.

Statistically, Toure impressed at Hoffenheim in 2025-26, ranking first among Bundesliga forwards for successful crosses (39), joint-second for assists (nine), joint-third for completed dribbles (48) and fourth for chances created (45) and big chances created (11).

Besara highlighted Toure’s adaptability to coaching instructions, recalling how Toure implemented a tactical change to score headers after being asked by his coach. Those qualities extended to his defensive work; in his final Hoffenheim league campaign he won 152 duels and made 127 ball recoveries.

Coaches and teammates point to Toure’s speed, work ethic and tactical responsiveness as strengths, while noting he remains a raw talent who must improve finishing and adapt to the Premier League’s physical demands and Eddie Howe’s system.

Newcastle will aim to integrate Toure gradually, counting on his consistent mentality and recent experience of adapting across clubs as they look for a lasting impact on and off the field.
